Afrikamart actively participated in the Fruit Attraction 2024 fair in Madrid, a key event for stakeholders in the agribusiness sector. Our attendance highlighted our commitment to innovation and sustainability, which are essential as we strengthen our position in international markets.
Technology and Strategic Partnerships
The focus of the first day was on technology. Our team delved into advancements in fruit characteristic recognition, particularly coloration. However, we identified a significant gap in the market: variety detection. Afrikamart aims to fill this void, positioning ourselves at the forefront of innovation in this area. Productive meetings with companies primarily from Belgium and the Netherlands opened up potential for technological partnerships. These future collaborations could enable us to integrate advanced European standards into our quality control processes, especially at our conditioning stations. We paid special attention to the expertise of these companies, including those conducting tests at the Port of Rotterdam for products like peanuts and cashew nuts.
Certifications and Market Access
The second day was dedicated to market access, emphasizing the critical importance of GlobalGAP and BRC certifications for exporting to Europe. Discussions with entities like the Import Promotion Desk highlighted the need to strengthen our processes to meet European requirements, paving the way for new business opportunities. Fruitful discussions with representatives from Mauritania also revealed logistic challenges associated with exporting products such as watermelons and gum arabic. These meetings underscore our commitment to overcoming cross-border challenges to optimize our supply chain.
Commitment to Sustainability
A session organized by the Biofruit Congress underscored the growing importance of sustainability in European markets. Africa, as a major trading partner of Europe, must prepare to meet these standards— not just to remain competitive but also to ensure the attractiveness of its products. Afrikamart is at the forefront of this transformation, committed to implementing practices that respect environmental, social, and governance (ESG) indicators.
Conclusion
Our participation in Fruit Attraction 2024 not only reinforced our credibility but also confirmed our role as a leader in promoting sustainable and innovative agricultural practices. Afrikamart continues to evolve, adapt, and respond to market challenges while striving to provide the best solutions for our farmers and business partners worldwide
